Yesterday night the opening reception of the “Don’t Wake Daddy IV” (covered) show at Feinkunst Krüger took place in Hamburg, Germany. Since I had marked it down in my calender the anticipation of seeing all the amazing drawings by 28 international artists in person grew with every single day approaching the opening. And what a blast we had…Other than calling the show a big success for all, audience, artists, curator and gallery manager would be pure understatement. The art works were attracting red dots like a hive a bear on the hunt for honey with almost 50% of the work being sold after the opening night.
Decisions needed to be made fast in order to score the piece of interest
Ralf Krüger (gallery owner) and Heiko Müller (curator, studio visit) did an awesome job and put together a show full of talent, verve and joy of well known and emerging artists alike which all presented very strong and solid work. US artist Gregory Hergert (flickr) made the trip across the pond extra for this show and was on site explaining and discussing his art with the audience and enjoyed the evening with drinks, music and making new friends. One being Marcus Schäfer who had several amazing drawings in the show himself.
And what have we learned from this exciting night?
Whenever you have the chance to attend a gallery show…DO IT!!! If it’s the opening night, even better, chances are high to talk to the artists in person and exchange opinions with art lovers like you. But if you can’t make it to opening night make sure you make a visit while the art is still on display. Nothing is more important to see art in person. You will learn so much about art itself, the technique, history and personality of an artists by looking a his art live and in color.
